It’s that time of year again; the time when oyster lovers rejoice.
The Mahurangi oyster season is officially open!
Indulge in some of the best-tasting oysters straight from the pristine Mahurangi harbour.
When it comes to freshness, nothing beats a freshly shucked, fat, creamy Mahurangi oyster right out of the water.
If you haven’t tried these sweet, plump, and succulent oysters, you’re missing out on one of nature’s great treats.
Good for you, good for us all
Oysters are a whole food, packed with plenty of protein, vitamins, minerals, and omega-3 fatty acids. And they come secure in Mother Nature’s own brilliant packaging. Farmed oysters are a delicious, sustainable, eco-friendly food source. Slurping them back can help both you and the planet.
They’re also incredibly versatile. Eat an elegant platter of these meaty molluscs with a dash of lemon juice or our wonderful chardonnay vinegar, bake, fry or grill them in a variety of dishes, or use them to add depth and flavour to soups and stews. The ways to enjoy these tasty bivalves are virtually endless.
If you’re hosting a dinner party, enjoying a romantic meal for two, or simply indulging in a midday snack, oysters are the perfect choice. And with the Mahurangi oyster season now open, there’s never been a better time to indulge in some of the best oysters in the world.
Oysters at their plump, creamy best
Oysters thrive in cold water, which is why they’re at their peak during winter. Although they’re good to eat in the autumn and spring, they’re at their full-flavoured, meaty best from April through to December, which is when we harvest and sell our live naturally caught Pacific Mahurangi oysters.
January to March is the time when oysters grow and recover after mating, so we leave them in their beds. We don’t sell naturally caught Mahurangi oysters during the summer months. But to keep oyster enthusiasts happy, we sell hatchery-grown triploid oysters instead. These little beauties do not mate over summer and come from stock that is faster growing.
Mahurangi oyster season – a time of celebration
Raw, cooked, on their own or paired with a crisp white wine, there is no denying the sheer pleasure that comes from indulging in these delectable delights.
Whether you’re a seasoned oyster lover or a newcomer to the world of bivalves, Mahurangi oysters are an absolute must try.
If you want to know where you can buy fresh oysters, then you’ve come to the right place. So, go ahead and indulge. Your taste buds, and the planet, will thank you.
Mahurangi oysters are a true delight that should not be missed.
